JATO (an acronym for jet-assisted take-off), is a type of assisted take-off for helping overloaded aircraft into the air by providing additional thrust in the form of small rockets.
We use this acronym for our charitable family foundation because we want to provide additional thrust to highly motivated, committed people who are carrying systemic burdens that prevent them from escaping poverty, achieving a sustainable livelihood, or supporting the race to preserve our planet.
We do that through three programs:
JATO Launch, JATO Intercept, and JATO Blue Skies.
Generational poverty in the United States is caused by many factors, but the largest single factor in changing that condition for individuals and families is a college education. While there are many programs that support higher education,
JATO Launch helps first generation college hopefuls achieve their potential by providing targeted mentoring and support intended to guide them from their junior high school years until their successful entrance into college.

People experiencing homelessness are in a desperate situation that is very difficult to overcome. The multiple of issues that come with securing the necessities of life (water, food, medicine, shelter, clothing, employment) are exceptionally challenging and can appear to be insurmountable at times when in this condition. JATO Intercept works to reach individuals that are experiencing issues that may rapidly lead to homelessness and help them address those problems before they become critical.

Earth is experiencing a loss of biodiversity, increased pollution and unprecedented global warming due to human causes. This is a crisis that requires immediate attention, yet we lack the institutional and individual commitment needed to rise to the challenge. JATO Blue Skies raises awareness in under-represented communities by fostering green spaces in blighted urban areas and contributing to programs that get youth into the wilderness.

JATO’s strategy is designed to help a smaller number of people in a substantive way.
We know that a few people can, in fact, change the world.
